At Wholesun Bread, community upliftment isn’t just something we do — it’s who we are. As South Africa’s largest independent bread manufacturer, our mission extends far beyond baking. We are building a more educated, skilled, nourished, and empowered nation, one initiative at a time.

Nourishing the Nation

From our bakery in Beaconvale, we produce over 1000s of loaves of bread daily, along with biscuits, rolls, and other staples. Our affordable pricing keeps competitors accountable and food accessible to families across the Western Cape. But for us, feeding South Africa is only the beginning.

In Mitchells Plain and beyond, we’ve run school feeding programmes to provide wholesome meals to learners in under-resourced schools. These initiatives are about more than nutrition — they create an environment where learners can focus, thrive, and dream.

Wholesun Maths Journey – Building Future STEM Champions

In 2024, Wholesun proudly launched the Wholesun Mathematics Journey in partnership with STEM Heroes. This groundbreaking initiative reached 11,598 Grade 6 and 7 learners across 40 schools, nurturing South Africa’s next generation of STEM leaders.

Through a mix of weekly online worksheets, Olympiad-style competitions, and a national Gala Prize-Giving event, we made mathematics both accessible and exciting. Learners received individual logins to the Maths Heroes platform, completed structured exercises, and competed to become Mathematics Heroes (Grade 6) and Champions (Grade 7). Top-performing schools and educators were also honoured with awards and prizes.

This wasn’t just a competition — it was a movement to ignite a passion for mathematics, elevate academic performance, and create real pathways to the 4th and 5th Industrial Revolutions.

Our in-house Training Academy is equipping our staff and their families with accredited online and in-person learning opportunities. All courses are SAQA-aligned, and we offer training in:

We’re proud to be piloting this programme internally and look forward to launching it publicly by the end of 2024.
