After completing this section, the learner will be able to analyse the current situation; determine and describe agreed short and long-term organisational objectives, by successfully completing the following:

  • The method and scope of the analysis is planned thoroughly to ensure effective and efficient analysis. (US12138, SO1, AC2)
  • Sourced information is current, relevant and accurate.  The information covers the entire planned scope of analysis. (US12138, SO1, AC3)
  • The method of analysis used is sufficient and relevant to accurately describe the present situation and meet the purpose of the analysis. (US12138, SO1, AC4)
  • Actions, processes and procedures are recorded to facilitate further interpretation and validation of the analysis. (US12138, SO1, AC5)
  • Different methods of analysis and data gathering are described in terms of their strengths, weaknesses, features and applications. (US12138, SO1, AC6).
  • Determining and describing agreed to short and long-term organisational objectives. (US12138, SO2)
  • The objectives are verified with stakeholders as valid, current and complete.  Key decision-makers are strategists and are included in the verification process. (US12138, SO2, AC1)
  • The objectives are recorded clearly to facilitate further interpretation. (US12138, SO2, AC2)
  • The role and importance of objectives are described within the context of the analysis taking cognisance of their function and value to the organisation. (US12138, SO2, AC3).

  • Collecting, analysing, organising and critically evaluating information by, for example, analysing the current situation in an organisation and conducting an external and internal environmental scan. (US 12138, CCFO – Collecting)
  • Communicating effectively by, for example, recording the analysis process and recommendations and producing a written report of the results. (US 12138, CCFO – Communicating)
