Tasty Egg and cheese toastie

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of wholesome bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Add-ins:

  • A sprinkle of chopped chives or parsley
  • A dash of hot sauce or Dijon mustard for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Egg:
    • Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a small dab of butter or oil.
    • Crack the egg into the pan and cook until the white is set but the yolk is still slightly runny (for a fried egg) or flip for an over-easy style.
    • Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Assemble the Toastie:
    • Butter one side of each slice of bread.
    • Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface or pan.
    • Layer one slice of cheese, followed by the cooked egg, then the second slice of cheese.
    • Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  3. Toast the Sandwich:
    • Heat a skillet or sandwich press over medium heat.
    • Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, pressing down lightly with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  4. Serve:
    • Slice in half and serve hot. Enjoy it as a hearty breakfast or a quick snack!
